Over 7800-kilo tonnes of textiles wastes are accumulated in India annually. The numbers are big and to reduce them India launched the enhancing circularity and sustainability project. The main objective of the project is to reduce the negative impacts of the textile sector on the environment. The Government of India recently approved twenty research projects.
Of these 20 projects, three are in the area of textile recycling. After agriculture, the textile industry is the second largest employment provider in the country. India is self-sufficient in raw materials. It is the third-largest producer of cotton in the world.
However pure cotton products are expensive. Most of the 100% pure cotton products are exported. So they prefer synthetic textiles like poly cotton. This is why it is essential that India recycles its products.
